1) When talking about realism, you firstly have to assume that you can't represent the actual combat in a game yet. What you can do is to represent some aspects that you find important.
1.1) War Of The Roses wanted to show breakable weapons. It's ok when a spear gets recked by several hits of a sword, but I doubt that it's OK if a 2h sword breaks after 6-7 hits given that there is no way to deflect it, you can only block.1.2) Mount&Blade has a good combat system in general, but a fucked footwork system, because it's not physical at all — you can spin like a whipping top, you can simply turn around and make a step to avoid a swing, turn around again and strike, which is not possible in real life.1.3) Chivalry has these backslashes and blocking all incoming arrows with a Tower Shield on your back (you can turn too fastly). All of the games have a fucked ranged combat, which leads to ranged units being generally a lot more powerful than other classes.
1.4) And Exanima seems to have a very realistic interpretation of two drunk, but strong noobs trying to fight.
Like with all other games previously, it can seem that things will become better in the next versions. They probably will. But in most cases, things remained as they were, with a notable exception of Mount&Blade, which can be changed a lot by mods.
2) Haven't watched Skall's videos for damn ages. Fuck you, pommel throwers, you are annoying.
Realism is in no way any possible definition of Skyrim in any sense of the word. But hack and slash flail fests can be super fun. ;)
Needs pommel throwing, and to balance it out, it needs a katana made of nippon steel folded 1000 times.
looking at the fight from this bird's eye POV thing, it gets me thinking…. wouldn't it be easier to just stab the guy the moment he steps forward?I mean, in both scenarios, the game and an actual fight, if you have a longer weapon (claymore, halberd, or simple quarterstaff) wouldn't it take you waaaaaaaaay less effort to simply poke the guy to submission?to put it into practical examples, think a chinese kungfu spear wielder: aggressive direct thrusts to the face and torso, no fucking around.even if you have a quarterstaff and the other guy has a blade weapon, a thrust to the face would send him straight to the ground.it has to be the world's most basic and most ancient combat technique!
Drunk dungeon fighting simulator? I've actually been keeping an eye on this game for a while now. Great to see you taking a look at it. :)
Dead Island had an option to use an "analog" combat system that I found pretty realistic.
4:45 right to the cock!
3:30 he says as he keeps attacking directly into the opponent's shield.
Looks interesting. Probably give it a go myself. nice review
Right now it looks like 2 puppeteers making their puppets fight. lol But if they can polish the animations looks like it could be promising. I just wish Bushido Blade would come back. When I slash a leg or arm, it should affect the fight.
needs more thrusting
upcoming game kingdom come deliverance check it out look awesome
Great ! very promissing game.
man if this game had gibbing and dynamic body damage <3
Reminds me a lot about one particularly amusing 90's game called Die by the Sword. I enjoyed that game way too much.. way, way too much. Wild mouse/keyboard control movement and swinging, plus limb removal. Game is ugly as hell nowdays but it was amazingly innovative with it's combat back in the day :P
for vertical sync to work properly you must be in full screen
This game looks super rad!
drunk fighting simulator.
Skall, they're on that mead!
Still waiting for the videos 😮 I'm in love with the damned game, I even bought it after beating the arena, I NEVER buy games until a complete version is out , but honestly, that arena was already worth the price in my opinion, the only other early release game that made me feel guilty enough for "BORROWING" a copy was Rimworld.
Fighting system kind of reminds me of Die by the Sword from 1998. Have you ever played it? I wonder what your thoughts would be.
When will you play Kingdom Come?
Ever taken a look at overgrowth by wolfire games?
"the strike has no power that way*knocks enemy down*"
Heyo Skall,Just curious – have you tried "Life is Feudal: Your Own" yet? I haven't myself, but I was browsing Steam recently and thought it was something you'd check out and review.
love perma death games, looks really awesome!
I don't see this game as a very accurate realistic fighting game. When you get close to a guy using a long weapon (like a pole), he or she shouldn't even be able to block or attack back anymore because of the lenght of the weapon.
This mechanic on the Wii would be amazing.
The characters look like they're drunk, holding their pee, have diarrhea, holding a fart, smoked a blunt, and stubbed their toe.
Bare Mettle just released a huge update, the arena is much more awesome! You should take another look at Examina.
This game fight style has some name? like i dunno Realistic Fighting whit Physics or something?
Have you ever tried the game mount and blade?
The combat reminds me of the opening fight scene in Team America.
I take it you can't go outside? It's just a dungeon?
FINISH HIM RIGHTLY!
This game looks interesting.:-)
can you do pvp?
Would you be interested in trying this game again? There's been two updates already, and it'd be awesome to see your opinion now on the new shield mechanics and duel wielding.
skall new update is amazing
Cool, I found this game recently, but I didn't know you'd seen it. I honestly think this combat system would work much better in first person, or over-the-shoulder third person, since you could deliberately make different strikes/parries/counters instead of just broad sweeps.
I'd like to see a newer video on this taking a look at how it is after it's updates
Itsss tooo dark.
Can you thrust?
The footwork is not particularly good because of all the alcohol they imbibed.
Not what a fight between trained warriors would probably look like, but it would be pretty hard to translate that to a game. I guess this is what a fight between trained fighters would look like if everyone was absurdly hammered
Is that Ned Stark?
Hey, Skallagrim, try reviewing it now… I think they finally did the shield combat you always wanted ))
+Skallagrim Your fans thirst for more Exanima videos! Help us master! Please!
They look like marionettes
